A thrifted 2000’s shirt that could be something off of a guys closet in the 1970’s was the perfect choice for a trip to Alexandria, Egypt. The shirts colors give off that retro, beautifully tacky, and understated vintage look. The stripes to me, represent a sleek, “I just put this on because” feel. Again giving off that 70’s feel with all the elements combined and the slim fit. When wearing vintage, it’s become cool to shout with colors and a wild art student feel, but to me, vintage clothing’s art lies in its details and subtle hints. Paired with other pieces to complete a look, the clothes become an identity for the day that color your not necessarily rose-colored glasses, but turquoise colored vision of the past. I paired the shirt with blue jeans for a day time, high waisted kinda mood and added a woven leather belt to whisper the era I’m inspired by, not scream it. As someone who tends to hide away from color, this look proved to me that for the right day, event, location and time, color can be chic and subtle to the eye, especially with a backdrop of the bright sun, the Mediterranean Sea, and vintage Parisian cafe’s with yellow taxi’s rushing through the streets of a city filled with culture and history.

Alexandria taught me that the daytime is as elegant as the nighttime and that leather belts that fit a little too tight will loosen up once you see historical European architecture and walk in streets untouched by modern mania. Adding more color to my clothes doesn’t have to be a statement, but can be a part of my daily wear. It wasn’t easy dressing for a city like her but I thought of her color palette and she approved. I walked as a part of her buildings, streets and mediterranean sea unable to separate my colors from hers. Vintage clothes was the reason that I took that trip and to the power of fashion, I hope that my small experience inspires somebody to purchase, wear and take that trip to yourself.
